The V International Exhibition of Weapons Systems and Military Equipment KADEX – 2018 completed in Astana
The jubilee V International Exhibition of Weapons Systems and Military Equipment KADEX – 2018 was held in the year of the 20th anniversary of Astana, from May 23 to 26, 2018, in the military sector of the International Airport.
48 official delegations from Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, the UAE, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Mongolia, and other countries, as well as 108 Top-Managers of leading foreign companies operating in the defense industry complex, space activities and cybersecurity sectors participated in the Exhibition.
318 companies from 28 countries presented their products as exhibitors. Among them were companies form Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, Israel, India, Spain, Italy, the PRC, the Netherlands, the RF, the USA, Serbia, etc.
Weapons and military equipment, military and dual-purpose products of the world’s leading manufacturers, space hardware and technology samples, information security solutions were represented at the Exhibition. Domestic and foreign defense industry complex and space sector enterprises, leading engineering bureaus and research and development institutes in the information security sector participated in the Exhibition.
KADEX - 2018 visitors got acquainted with the latest advances and prospective scientific developments of defense industry complex and space sector enterprises, 124 land machinery units and 18 items of aeronautical equipment and UAVs were represented at the open demonstration area.
The International Conference in the sphere of military and technical cooperation – “Advanced Def Tech” Research and Practice Conference was held within the Exhibition.
Representatives of defense industry complex enterprises, research and development institutes and engineering organizations from Kazakhstan, Russia, China, Turkey, Belarus, and other countries participated in the Conference. They discussed topical issues of efficient military and technical cooperation development, strategies and mechanisms of defense industry sector modernization, and advanced technology implementation.
The largest defense industry complex manufacturers presented their projects for armored vehicle and multiple rocket launcher system modernization, modern developments in the sphere of armored wheeled vehicles and unmanned air vehicles production. Based on the event results, the final Resolution on main cooperation directions in military and technological sphere between countries of the region was signed.
In addition to this, “CYBER AND DIGITAL SECURITY” Information Security Conference was held within KADEX – 2018, which was devoted to protection of information and communication technology and critical information and communication infrastructure facilities.
The Conference was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister Askar Zhumagaliyev and the Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry Beibut Atamkulov.
Representatives of national regulating bodies of Japan, the PRC, Malaysia, Jordan, Pakistan, and Belarus presented their reports at the Conference.
28 organizations from 14 countries (Kazakhstan, Russia, Jordan, the PRC, the USA, Belarus, Malaysia, France, Pakistan, Japan, Israel, Turkey, Belgium, Mongolia) also participated in the Conference.
514representatives of central governmentalauthorities, higher education institutions, quasi-public sector organizations, domestic and foreign participated in this event.
“Space Days in Kazakhstan: Kazcosmos 25th Anniversary” International Forum was held for the first time within KADEX – 2018 Exhibition. Over 500 representatives of space agencies and governmental bodies, cosmonauts, famous scientists, specialists of leading global companies in the space technology sector took part in this Forum. More than 20 countries were represented.
During KADEX – 2018, the Minister of Defense and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan B. Atamkulov hold a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Turkey Yunus Karaosmanogly and the Head of the Defense Industry Committee of Turkey Ismail Demir. In the course of negotiations, the parties discussed the issues of current bilateral military and technical cooperation and prospective projects implementation.
Also, within KADEX – 2018, the meeting with the Director of the Foreign Defense Assistance and Defense Export Agency (SIBAT) of the Ministry of Defense of Israel Michel Ben-Baruch was held, during which the parties discussed cooperation in the defense sector.
The opportunities of cooperation in the space activities were discussed during the negotiations with the President of the JAXA Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency Hiroshi Yamakawa.
Meetings with the Minister of Industry of the Republic of Belarus Vitali Vovk and the Chairman of the State Military Industrial Committee of the Republic of Belarus Oleg Dvigalev, the Minister of Defense of Greece Panos Kammenos, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of Spain Agustín Conde Bajén, the Director General of the Royal Geographic Center, Brigadier General Awni Khasawneh, the Minister of Defense of Guinea Mohamed Diane, the Deputy Head of the General Staff of the Sultanate of Shamis Al Habsi were held.
During the negotiations, the issues of establishing and developing bilateral military and technical cooperation in space activities and information security sectors were discussed.
Negotiations with the management of the largest defense enterprises of Russia (Almaz-Antey Concern, United Aircraft Corporation, Uralvagonzavod), Belarus (558 Aircraft Repair Plant, Agat Control Systems OJSC), Italy (LEONARDO Holding), Turkey (MILSOFT, STM, OTOKAR Companies) were held during visits to pavilions.
10 pavilions were installed at the exhibition, including national pavilions of Turkey, China and Russia, pavilions of Kazakhstani enterprises Kazakhstan Engineering NC JSC, Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering LLP, Kaztechnologies JSC. In addition, the pavilion devoted to the space industry was installed for the very first time, and samples of advanced cosmonautics developments were represented there.
The Russian Federation, the PRC and the Republic of Turkey represented their national pavilions with developments in defense industry complex, aerospace sector and cyber security.
The area of the Russian pavilion was 2224 sq. m, it housed 58 companies. Russian Helicopters Holding of Rostec State Corporation, Rosoboronexport, High Precision Systems JSC, United Aircraft Corporation, JSC Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems, Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center JSC, and others presented their novelties.

The pavilion of the People’s Republic of China housed 20 companies.
ALIT Company, Chinese Corporation CATIC specializing in production of military and civil aircrafts, on-board armament and ground equipment, China North Industries Corporation NORINCO. Enterprises from defense electronics and cyber security sector were also represented in the Chinese pavilion.
Based on the Exhibition results, about 100 memoranda, contracts, agreements and protocols amounting to more than 300 bln. tenge, aimed to develop and strengthen military and technical cooperation, defense industry complex of the country, aerospace industry and cyber security.
